Description

The health and safety of our members is the UWEBC’s top priority. UW–Madison is monitoring the COVID-19 situation in collaboration with local, state and federal agencies. Based on campus' guidance, this meeting will be held via web only to allow our members a convenient and safe way to attend.

The pandemic led to an unprecedented consumption shock that upended long-standing consumer habits. But what happens once the pandemic is over?

The pandemic will leave lasting marks on consumer behavior as long-standing habits – more spending on services, greater digital adoption, and more time and money spent out of home—have been interrupted, accelerated, or reversed. These shifts will be felt for some time and continue to shape consumer choices long after the pandemic is over.

Many companies responded with agility to unprecedented disruption within the markets they serve. New products and services were created with a great sense of urgency and outside of the boundaries of traditional planning processes. Many companies have been forced to accelerate investment in e-commerce and expand their capabilities such as customer delivery. .

John Kenneth Galbraith famously said of forecasting, "There are two kinds of forecasters: those who don’t know, and those who don’t know they don’t know.” We will set aside prognostications for the post-pandemic future. Instead, we explore how we might lead our organizations to be more resilient and innovative with our planning processes. Our responses to the pandemic can inform our future.

Takeaways:

  • What has our organization’s response to the Covid pandemic revealed about our employees, our processes, and how we serve markets?
  • In what ways has our organization become more resilient, agile, and innovative?
  • How will we integrate these lessons into our approach to product management and/or corporate planning processes?
