Lin Wilson

Lin Wilson

Information Designer, Graphic Recorder & Lecturer

Lin Wilson tames information chaos with art. His graphic design and illustration have visually clarified complexity for brands like Trek Bikes, Gates Foundation, Sierra Club, Milwaukee Art Museum and dozens of ad agencies such as CP+B, Chiat Day and DDB. Starting his career in New York, he walked his portfolio into the offices of The New York Times, Fortune and Esquire, where they encouraged his start by printing his illustrations for various articles and essays. His illustrations for Turner Classic Movies won a Silver Clio for trade advertising and work for Molson Coors illustrated a Gold Lion for Media.

For live events and meetings, Lin draws pictures of speaker presentations with a service called “graphic recording”. These visuals capture the memorable and takeaway points of conference speakers and has done this for companies, Ted Talks and at the Knowledge Summit in Dubai.

His recent efforts in education began with co-teaching visualization workshops at Emory Goizueta Business School and Vanderbilt Owen School of Management. He currently lectures at the University of Wisconsin Madison teaching information graphics, accessibility and user experience. Raised in St. Louis, he is a graduate of the University of Kansas with additional study at the School of Visual Arts in New York. After long hours at drawing table, he stretches by hiking the Ice Age Trail, kayaking and training for cross country ski races.

Lin Wilson will be providing “graphic recording” on large boards of many of the talks this year at the UWEBC Annual Conference. These drawings capture the memorable and takeaway points of conference speakers. They are a mix of words and pictures that will be great artifacts to refer to some of the insights and concepts you heard during the event. Attendees will have the opportunity to take pictures of and with his art throughout the day and during Bucky’s Gallery Walk at the conclusion of the conference.
